About splendid.hr

splendid.hr is an editorial guide to the Croatian Adriatic — its islands, anchorages, marinas, beaches and coastal towns — written for people who see the coast from the water. We publish in thirteen languages, and we cover Croatia the way it is actually travelled: by boat, bay by bay.

This page explains who writes our guides, how we research them, how we keep them current, who owns us, and how to reach us if we have got something wrong.

Our editorial standards

Every guide on splendid.hr is written by the splendid.hr editorial team — with over 30 years of combined experience cruising Croatia’s Adriatic coast. Four rules govern what we publish.

1. First-hand knowledge comes before publication

Our recommendations are based on first-hand knowledge of the anchorages, islands and coastal towns we write about. When we describe how a bay behaves in a strong maestral, where the holding is poor, or which marina berth is exposed to ferry wash, that comes from having been there — not from aggregating other websites.

2. We are editorially independent

splendid.hr does not accept payment for placement or for recommendations. No restaurant, marina, charter company or hotel can buy a mention, a ranking position or a favourable description. If we recommend an anchorage over the one next to it, that is our editorial judgement and nothing else. We also earn nothing from the links in our guides.

3. Guides are dated and reviewed

Sailing information goes stale: mooring fees change, marinas rebuild, a konoba closes, a national park changes its permit rules. Every guide carries a last updated date, and we review our guides at the start of each calendar year. If a guide has not been reviewed recently, its date says so — we would rather show you an honest date than an evergreen page pretending to be current.

4. We correct mistakes openly

We get things wrong. When we do, we fix the guide rather than quietly deleting it, and material corrections are noted on the page. Reader reports are the fastest way we learn that something has changed on the water — see corrections and contact below.

Who owns splendid.hr

We think you should know who is behind a travel guide before you trust its advice, so plainly: splendid.hr is published by Splendid Yachting AG, a crewed yacht charter company operating in Croatia. That is a commercial parent company, and we state it here rather than burying it.

What that means in practice: our parent company earns money when people charter a yacht in Croatia, and it does not earn money from what we write about a particular beach, marina or restaurant. Our guides therefore cover the coast on its own terms — including places you can reach perfectly well by ferry, car or on foot, and including the parts of a sailing holiday that are genuinely difficult. The editorial rules above are the safeguard, and rule 2 is the one that matters most: nothing on this site is for sale.

Where a subject does touch chartering directly — crewed versus bareboat, licence requirements, what a week actually costs — we say so and link to Splendid Yachting’s Croatia charter fleet so you can see the boats and prices for yourself instead of taking our word for it. For the separate question of owning a yacht — buying, refit and maintenance — our sister company Yachtwerk covers brokerage and yard work.

How to use the site

Most people arrive on a single guide from a search result. If you are planning a trip from scratch, these hubs are the better entry points:

Corrections and contact

If a guide is out of date, a price has changed, a place has closed, or we have simply made a mistake, please tell us — it is genuinely useful and we would rather hear it from you than leave it wrong.
