What does a week of yacht charter in Croatia cost?
Budget depends on yacht type, length, crew model, and season. Bareboat monohulls and catamarans sit in a wide weekly range; crewed motor yachts cost more because captain, crew, and hotel service are included, with APA usually on top for food, fuel, and berths. Shoulder weeks in June or September often stretch the same budget further than peak August. See our cost guide for sample week budgets without surprise extras.
Do I need a sailing licence to charter in Croatia?
Bareboat charter requires a recognised skipper licence plus a VHF radio certificate for at least one person on board. Crewed charter does not — the professional captain holds the tickets and you travel as a guest. If you are unsure whether your certificate is accepted, ask before you book.
When is the best season for yacht charter in Croatia?
June and September usually balance warm water, reliable winds, open restaurants, and calmer anchorages. July and August are warmest and busiest, with peak charter rates. May and October are quieter and often better value, with cooler swimming and some seasonal closures.
Should I start from Split or Šibenik?
Split has the larger bareboat fleets and the busiest airport. Šibenik — especially D-Marin Mandalina — is quieter on the first afternoon, closer to the Kornati and Krka, and a strong base for crewed motor yacht weeks. Choose Split for maximum bareboat choice; choose Šibenik when you want a calmer start and central Dalmatian reach.
Crewed or bareboat — which is right for me?
Bareboat suits licensed skippers who want to handle helm, berths, and provisioning themselves. Crewed charter suits guests who want a captain (and usually host or chef) to run the boat, local knowledge, and a hotel-style week. Many first-time Croatia guests pick crewed so the first afternoon is about swimming, not paperwork.
