Yacht Charter

Last updated: 4 September 2026

Split holds most of Croatia’s bareboat fleets and the country’s busiest charter airport. Šibenik — and specifically D-Marin Mandalina — is quieter on day one, closer to the Kornati and Krka, and the natural start for many crewed motor-yacht weeks. This hub compares the two bases so you pick the right first afternoon, not just the nearest pin on a map.

What actually differs

Fleets: Split (and nearby Trogir) concentrate the volume bareboat and catamaran programmes. Šibenik’s Mandalina is built around larger berths and crewed motor yachts — fewer identical 40-footers, more skippered and crewed product.

First miles: From Split you enter a busy channel toward Brač, Šolta, and Hvar. From Šibenik you open toward the Kornati, Žirje, and the Krka approaches — often less traffic on the first evening.

Airports: Flying into Split favours a Split start. Flying into Zadar often favours Šibenik. Either airport can feed either base; the transfer time difference is real but usually not the deciding factor for a crewed week.

How to choose

  • Choose Šibenik if the week is crewed, you value a calmer handover, or the Kornati/Krka loop is the priority.
  • Choose Split if bareboat inventory and price comparison matter most, or your flights only work via Split Airport late in the day.
  • Either base can run a classic central Dalmatian week — the difference is the first 24 hours and the fleet mix, not whether Vis or Hvar is “allowed.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Šibenik or Split better for a first-time charter?
Neither is universally better. Pick Split when bareboat choice and the shortest airport transfer matter most. Pick Šibenik (Mandalina) when you want a calmer first afternoon, crewed service, or a start closer to the Kornati and Krka.
Can I sail the same islands from both bases?
Yes. Both bases reach central Dalmatia — Brač, Hvar, Vis, Korčula and the Kornati are all in range on a typical week. The difference is the first day, traffic density, and which marina culture you prefer — not a hard geographic lock.
Which base is quieter on Saturday changeover?
Šibenik's Mandalina is usually calmer than the main Split charter docks on peak Saturdays. Split moves more boats and more guests through the same windows, so taxis, provisioning, and check-out queues feel denser.
Does crewed charter favour Šibenik?
Often yes for motor-yacht weeks based at D-Marin Mandalina, because the marina and local operators are set up for crewed product. Crewed boats can still embark in Split when that fits flights or guest plans — base the decision on logistics and the first afternoon, not marketing labels.
