ACI Marina Pula sits on the eastern shore of Pula Bay, 1 km from the iconic Roman amphitheatre that dominates the city skyline. It’s the primary charter base for southern Istria, with year-round service and direct yacht-charter handover for trips to Brijuni National Park (5 nm north), the Istrian peninsula coast, and the Kvarner Gulf islands. The marina is a 15-minute drive from Pula Airport (PUY), which has direct seasonal flights from many European cities.

Approach & Position

Approach Pula Bay from the west or south — the bay is 2 nm wide at the entrance, well-marked, with the iconic Pula Lighthouse on Veruda island as the landmark. Once inside the bay, the marina is on the eastern shore, immediately south of the commercial port. Speed limit is 5 knots inside the bay; reduce to 3 knots within 100 m of the marina.

The marina basin is sheltered from the prevailing Maestral (NW) by the bay geometry. Bura (NE) impact is moderate. The bay opens west, so westerly storms can bring some swell into the marina; in any forecast westerly above 25 knots, the basin gets choppy.

The marina sits directly under the city — the Roman amphitheatre (Arena) is visible from many berths, 800 m walk along the waterfront. Few marinas in the world have a comparable view.

The Pula Old Town & Roman Heritage

Pula has the most concentrated Roman heritage of any city on the eastern Adriatic. The major monuments within 10-20 min walk of the marina:

• Pula Arena — the sixth-largest surviving Roman amphitheatre in the world, built 27 BC-68 AD, capacity 23,000. Still hosts open-air concerts (Pula Film Festival in late July, Pula Concert Series in summer). Entry €10.
• Temple of Augustus — 1st century BC, on the Forum Square, perfectly preserved. Free entry.
• Triumphal Arch of the Sergii — 27 BC, the western entrance to the Roman city, still standing.

The Old Town surrounding the Roman monuments is small, walkable, with a mix of Habsburg and modern Croatian architecture. The Forum Square with the Temple of Augustus is the social heart at sunset.

5 km south of Pula in a small bay is ACI Marina Pomer (180 berths, similar pricing). Quieter, more remote, popular with crews who want to skip the city scene. Pomer is the closer base for Cape Kamenjak and the Premantura beaches. The drive into Pula is 10 min by taxi.

Charter Handover & Airport Transfer

Pula Airport (PUY) is 7 km north of ACI Marina Pula — 12 minutes by taxi (€20-30). The airport has direct seasonal flights from London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Stockholm, and several other European cities (mostly summer-only). Year-round flights connect via Zagreb.

For charter handover, ACI Pula is calmer than the major Dalmatian marinas because of the lower charter volume. Saturday handover days are easy to navigate; weekday arrivals are very calm.
