Hidden Beaches in Croatia You Can Only Reach by Yacht

The Croatian beaches that locals keep quiet about — twelve coves, bays, and pebble strips reachable only by boat, with anchorage data.

17 destinations curated for yacht-accessible Croatia travel.

Croatia has some of the most photographed beaches in the Mediterranean, and a handful of hidden ones that never make the brochures. The difference between a forgettable beach day and a great one is almost always access: the best Croatian beaches are reached by boat, with maybe a single konoba serving fresh fish at the back of the bay.

The 12 Best Boat-Only Beaches in Croatia

1. Stiniva (Vis)

European Best Beach 2016. A narrow gap in the cliffs opens onto a pebble cove enclosed by 100m limestone walls. Anchor outside the entrance — the cove itself is too narrow and too shallow for yachts. Tender or swim in. Arrive before 11:00 to avoid the day-tripper boats from Komiža. Full guide to Stiniva.

2. Proizd (off Korčula)

Small uninhabited island west of Korčula. Three “carved” white-stone swimming platforms shaped like infinity pools. Restaurant Proizd at the back of the cove serves fresh seafood. Anchor in 8–15m sand. Full guide to Proizd.

3. Lojena (Levrnaka, Kornati)

Inside Kornati National Park. One of the only true sandy beaches in central Dalmatia. Park entry €25/person. Anchor mooring buoys in the bay; do not drop anchor on the seagrass. Full guide to Lojena.

4. Blue Lagoon at Krknjasi (Drvenik Veli)

Two islets, shallow turquoise water over white sand. The most popular Croatian “Insta beach” — meaning crowded after 10:30. Arrive at sunrise for an empty bay. Full guide to Blue Lagoon.

5. Sakarun (Dugi Otok)

800m of fine white sand, the rarest find on the Adriatic — most Croatian beaches are pebble. Bay is well-protected from northwest, exposed to south. Full guide to Sakarun.

6. Stiniva (Hvar)

Confusingly, Hvar also has a Stiniva — a different cove, on the south coast of Hvar Island. Pebble beach, two small konobas. Less famous than the Vis Stiniva but easier access from a yacht.

7. Pasjača (Konavle, south of Dubrovnik)

Reachable from the sea via 60m cliff descent (recently improved with stairs). The cliffs around it are 100m high and the beach is a 200m strip of pebbles. Anchor outside the bay — there is no protected anchorage.

8. Porat Bay (Biševo)

The “other” Biševo bay (not the Blue Cave). Sheltered, sandy, only one restaurant. Full guide to Porat Bay.

9. Lubenice Beach (Cres)

Below the 4,000-year-old cliff-top village. Reachable on foot via a steep trail (45 min) or by boat. The cliff hike is dramatic — anchor in the cove, hike up, eat at Konoba Hibernicia in the village. Full guide to Lubenice.

10. Vela Przina (Lumbarda, Korčula)

The only sand beach on Korčula. Family-friendly, gentle slope into water, surrounded by Grk vineyards.

11. Stipanska Bay (Pakleni Islands, Hvar)

Home to Carpe Diem Beach club — sandy/pebble bay with bar and restaurant. Family by day, party by night. Anchor on sand in 6–10m.

12. Šćedro Island

South of Hvar. Tiny inhabited island (~10 permanent residents). Two bays — Mostir and Manastir — quiet anchorages with one restaurant each.

Anchoring Etiquette & National Park Rules

In Kornati and Mljet National Parks, you must use mooring buoys (€25–40/night per yacht in addition to park entry). Anchoring on seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) is prohibited and damages the protected marine ecosystem. Croatian Marine Biology Institute offers a free anchoring app showing prohibited zones.

Best Time to Visit Hidden Beaches

For empty beaches: arrive before 10:00 or after 17:00. The day-tripper boats from major ports operate 11:00–16:00. Late September is genuinely empty almost everywhere except Hvar Town, with sea temperatures still 22–24°C.
